Uncle Batch,

Thank you for being a great great-uncle to me. I find it fitting that your home going celebration was on the day America sprung into action many years ago. Your courage and bravery at such a tender age is an example to the ages and a story I often recount. I had the distinct pleasure of serving as a museum guide for the American flag flown at Iwo Jima. My head always held high knowing you had been there. I will never forget what you did and I will never forget you.

Dad, thank you for giving me a great childhood and giving me someone to emulate.

Batch was a wonderful friend, full of love, laughter and one of the most patient men I have ever met. I met you through Mitzi who met my mom, Ginny and a long friendship of many years began. We became the "golden Girls" and you accepted us into your home many times. You chuckled at our giggling, and our endless  chatter, Speaking for myself and for my mom (Ginny who is home with The Lord now too) you were loved by us, admired, and a gentlemen at all times. I (we) were blessed to have you in our lives.  I will miss you muchly.  I'm sure there are cookies and moon pies in heaven!!

Brian, I only met your folks a couple of times...your wedding with Sally and maybe one other. He seemed a really good guy...and I know he must have been if you emulated him in growing to a man. You know how much I love you. It is so hard to loose a parent and will be hard on your mom. Tell her that life can still be a joy. Daddy never stopped loving and missing mom, but his life was full and rich with family after she died. He said he was surprised that he could be so happy with her not with him. I pray that will be the case for Mitzi and that she will find joy in her family and grandchildren. I'll be praying for solace for you all. Hugs, Leila

I asked several of your loved ones special thoughts they had of you
And while there were many, it is here I will name just a few
Family first was top of mind and was one everyone would agree
A wonderful husband, a great father and the best role model one could be

You were admired for looking forward, never taking a step back
A Marine in the third division would be your life's counter-attack
You were proud, strong and willing and became a man at an early age
Semper Fi would be your motto one that everyone would engage

Personally, you were to me, the father I never had
Giving that special kind of love that can only come from a dad
And as for everyone else I am sure they will all agree
You hold a special place in their heart and it is there you will always be

You wrote the chapters of your life with a loving message on every page
With a different meaning for each of us and for that we give you praise
While we are saddened by your loss your new home is where we want to be
Surrounded by the angels, Gods love and family members lost previously

So Batch we all know, you are standing proudly once again
One arm saluting to your family and one arm gently holding Him
So you walk among those meadows, smelling every flower along the way
And know we look forward to seeing you again on our own blessed day

TR was always the quiet gentleman. My prayers go to the entire family for our LORDS comfort and strength.

I am sorry to read about Thurman's passing. I worked next door to him at the BellSouth Division St office for years and appreciated his experience and enjoyed the stories that he had to tell.  My condolences to his family.
