Vivian Davidson Hubbard passed away on September 3, 2020 at Orlando Health Dr. Phillips Hospital with her family near. She is survived by her children, Teresa Hemingway, Sam (Chris) Hubbard Jr., Amber (Michael) Woodworth, 8 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.
She was born on May 4, 1930 in Syracuse, NY to Afred M. Davidson and Elizabeth M. Jackson. She graduated from Hunt Memorial Boarding School in Freeville, NY and began her working career as a telephone operator.
She married Sam Hubbard from Fine, NY in 1950 and together they raised their 3 children.
Vivian moved to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands in January 1972 where she worked at The Cheshire Cat, a French American boutique. In the fall of 1973 she became co-owner of a construction company, moved to Costa Rica in Central America and built vacation homes in the hills overlooking the Beaches of Nosara. At the beginning of 1978 she moved to San Jose, Costa Rica and opened a Health Food Bakery where she took care of the business side of things and made "the best bread around!" In 1986 Vivian moved back to her "beloved Virgin Islands", this time to St. John. She worked in the Accounts Payable Dept. at The Virgin Grand Beach Hotel and Villas. They eventually became the Hyatt Regency St. John in 1990 after hurricane Hugo had devastated the island the previous Fall. Not long afterward, she transferred to Orlando, Florida. There she worked in the Accounting Dept. of The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and in later years, answered phones at the hotel until she retired in 2016. Vivian had the dearest of friends who stayed in her life after she left work. Their continued love and kindness to our Mother is beyond measure and our gratitude...far greater than words.
Over the years in her free time she enjoyed traveling, watching baseball and her "Cubbies," needlework, baking, ice skating and square dancing. She was an avid reader, loved being the organizer of various events and enjoyed spending time with cherished friends.
She decided to join the Brookdale Dr. Phillips community toward the end of 2017. They soon realized they had a sassy new resident with a sarcastic sense of humor who proceeded to supervise and keep them all in line, much like her working career. "Ms.Vivian" directed her Coffee Club, kept their minds sharp working crossword puzzles and word search, tended to the library and insisted her ever growing population of birds and squirrels were fat and happy with her meticulously prepared daily treats. The Brookdale Staff shared many happy stories about their time spent with her and we are eternally grateful to each of them for loving our Mother.
She came from humble beginnings and through that, developed a character that was strong, independent, driven and loyal. Her spunk and sense of humor were legendary and her generosity... endless. She left this earth with that same humility, despite rubbing elbows with some pretty influential and interesting people. She will be dearly missed.
Vivian was predeceased by her parents, her sister Almeda and her son-in-law Joe.
Her arrangements are being made by Dignity Memorial Family Funeral Care in Orlando, FLA. At Vivian's request, there will be no services. Donations can be made in Vivian's name to Brookdale Dr. Phillips Assisted Living, 8001 Pin Oak Dr. Orlando, FLA 32819...to keep her favorite people in chocolate, and the birds and squirrels fed in a manner in which they have become accustomed.
