Tribute to Uncle Arnold

My Dearest Uncle Arnold, I can still see your kind smile and hear the unique sound of your genteel voice …
I am all grown up now, but I remember as if it were yesterday, the first time I met you when I was eight years old when you, Auntie Dollis, Auntie Delia and Auntie Sandra visited St. Vincent. You sat with me and listened to the dreams I had for my life…
On your many voyages to your homeland to see Auntie Maude and Auntie Lucy, Grandpa Levi, Uncle Hardy and Grannie Sadie, you never failed to check in with me ask about my progress. 
Your encouragement over the years planted a seed of inspiration and belief that continues to bear fruit in my life… even today. 
Thank you for being a wonderful Uncle, my dear Uncle Arnold. Thank you most of all for your generosity of love and kind spirit. As a little child, the times when you will discreetly put American money in my little hands and tell me to buy something for myself will never be forgotten. 
Thank you for being a part of my life and making a contribution to the grown up I am today.
God has a special place for Uncles who care for his his nieces and nephews and helps them find their place in life.
I promise to tell my children and grandchildren of the outstanding human being you were to everyone and to continue your legacy by extending kindness to the hands and mind of a little child in need. 

Thank you for the life that you have lived and the example you gave us to follow. You will forever remain in our hearts. We hope to see you soon in Paradise.

He Is Gone 

You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left

Your heart can be empty because you can t see him 
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

When I lost my own family through divorce and shared that with him your father was so kind to offer to come to Minnesota from Michigan to come and see me. I never forgot this generous impulse of his to comfort me in my sorrow     

It was so encouraging to meet someone like him whose selflessness was a kindnesses never forgotten.  I am thankful to have known him. It will be our privilege to see him again in a better place where all that he was fits him so well. Come Lord Jesus for that day. Our deepest sympathy for our loss.

I will always remember the very fond memories I have of my dearest Uncle Bowman from when I was a young girl. For fifty-four years I have always held my uncle very close to my heart and I still do. We had a lot of very good times. He always made me laugh and he was there for both myself and my parents when my mother had her car accident. Uncle Bowman was a religious man, but he had a great sense of humour. I will never forget his laugh. He had a special way of saying my name. When I became a mother, he was very fond of my two sons, Brandon and Nicholas. He was very proud of them. He loved that my older son, Brandon, is in University as Uncle Bowman considered education to be very important. My younger son, Nicholas, always had an ongoing conversation with Uncle Bowman. They both regarded each other as Geniuses and Nicholas' nickname for Uncle Bowman was the Appropriate Gentleman. My sons are very fond of their Uncle Bowman. We take comfort and solace in knowing that Uncle Bowman is in a better place and that makes us truly happy. To any of those out there who are missing Uncle, remember: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" - Matthew 5:4

To our dear Uncle Arnold's family and loved ones;

We are  grateful to God to have had the influence of Uncle Arnold in our lives.

We remember him as a loving and yet strict father figure. A rare combination indeed; but one that reflected the character and likeness of the God he served.

We remember him as being ever ready to give help when help was needed, whether it was spiritual, physical or financial. He personally helped our family countless times and in countless ways. 

He made our lives bearable with his belly laughs and chuckles that always lifted our souls.

We were as blessed to have him in our lives, as you were to have him in yours.

May you find comfort in the knowledge that, by God's grace, we will see our beloved Uncle Arnold on resurrection morning.

May the Lord keep us faithful in Jesus' faithfulness until that wonderful day.

May the Comforter bless you with His peace as you trust in Him to care for you during this time of reflection.
