Annette Silva, 58, beloved daughter of Florence (Costa) and Anthony Menangas who predeceased her, passed away on July 15, 2013 at Liberty Commons in Chatham where she had been since July 11th. Before then, she was cared for at her home by her loving life partner and wife of over 26 years, Maureen Ouellette, who she is survived by. For almost 4 years, Annette fought a valiant fight against a neuroblastoma brain tumor. Annette is also survived by her sister, Floran Rozzelle of Wellfleet, her brothers, Gerard and his wife Kathy Menangas of Provincetown, and Marty and his wife Debbie Menangas of North Truro. She is also survived by her Godson Jamie Coelho of Quincy and many more nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. And by, good friends, Barbara and Alton Atwood. Annette was predeceased by her three children, Angela Marie, Ricky Anthony and Randy Anthony. Although life threw her many “curve balls” you would never hear her complain, “Why me!”
Annette grew up in Provincetown where she graduated from Provincetown High School in 1973. Her class held their 40th reunion last month during Provincetown’s Portuguese Festival. Right out of high school, Annette went to work for the Town of Provincetown at the Cape End Manor retiring after 23 years. While working for the town, she was a member of the local union. She served as its president for many years and was known for her sparring with town managers to get better benefits and working conditions for all union members. Upon leaving the Cape End Manor, she became a caregiver for many in the Wellfleet area. Annette was an avid sports fan and could often be seen wearing her colors proudly.
The family wished to thank everyone of the VNA, especially Cathy Staff, as well as the staff of Liberty Commons who made sure that Annette and her family were comfortable. Never underestimate the power of a sincere HUG!
