Known as “Benny” to family and many friends, he was the son of Louis Michaud and Sara (Fillion) Michaud of New Britain, CT.,
and grew up with his brothers Roland and Raymond. After graduating from E.C. Goodwin Technical High School, he joined and served in the U.S. Navy. In 1956, he married his wife and lifelong supporter, Carol Ann (Kupchik) Michaud. He studied mechanics and was always fascinated in how something was put together and how it worked. While residing in Vernon, CT Ben worked for Stanley, Monsanto, and retired to Cape Cod from Combustion Engineering at age 59 as a drafting and engineering group supervisor. He was a very accomplished, self-taught golfer, spending many hours practicing and playing throughout the years. A very memorable event in his life was winning his way into, and competing in the 1977 Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open Pro-Am. He enjoyed nice cars and owned a few special motorcycles. Weekend rides were common and meant so much to him and Carol. Keeping a nicely landscaped yard was important to Ben. He would often get compliments from passers-by, striking up conversation with those willing to stop and chat. He took to the art of oil painting like “a natural”. His many paintings are admired and desired by all who see them, with examples displayed from Washington state, Texas, and Newfoundland Canada. He was also very skilled in intricate, woodworking and model building. When taking a break from all his retirement activities, one of Ben’s favorite meals was enjoying a hot dog from his hometown restaurant “Capitol Lunch”.
