Dan was born February 24, 1932 in Radford, Virginia. He was the son of Nellie and Daniel E. Williams, Sr. Dan was one of eight brothers and sisters. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) when his education was interrupted by service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his service in the Navy, Dan graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a BS in Business Administration. Dan received his CPA license and was employed by Arthur Anderson for forty years. While working in the Hartford, CT office, he met and married Marjorie Young. Dan and Marjorie had two sons, Stewart and Preston. As a family, they enjoyed summer traveling, snow skiing and trips to Virginia to spend time with his family. Marjorie died in 1988 after a lengthy illness.
Dan met and married Elane Gledhill in 1997. They retired to Cape Cod, where they enjoyed 27 years of happiness together. Dan volunteered his services as Treasurer of the Newcomers Club, Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore and the East Egg Homeowners Association. He also volunteered as a guide at The French Cable Museum.
Family was very important to him. Dan enjoyed playing golf on the Cape, especially with his sons. Dan loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Every visit with Grandpa Dan inevitably would include several games of cribbage. Dan loved this game and, as everyone in the family would agree, he was the all time Cribbage Champ!
Dan was a true Southern gentleman with a kind heart who touched the lives of many people. All that knew Dan will remember his smile and greeting of "How ya doin'?". He will be greatly missed.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Elane; his two sons, Stewart (Cindy), and Preston (Heather); and his four grandchildren Rebecca (Cynthia), Jacob (Emily), Emily and Jackson. In addition, he is survived by stepdaughters Jennifer (Tim), Amy (Brian), and stepson Jeff. Dan was also loved by his step grandchildren Meghan (Dan), Andrew (Samantha), and Samantha and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Nellie and Daniel E. Williams, Sr.; his first wife Marjorie; sisters Francis, Elizabeth, Anne, Nancy and Peggy; brothers Fred and Harry; and daughter-in-law Terry.
Family will gather for a Celebration of Life at a later time to honor Dan.
