He was born to the late Edward Jacob Weber and the late Margaret Bernita (McDermitt) Weber on April 23, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from North Catholic High School and received a B.A. in Business Administration from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, before joining the U.S. Navy in 1963. From the time he was very young, Ed made friends easily and kept them for life. His friends from grade school, high school, college, and the Navy remained his friends in his later years. Ed was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and as a boy, he sang in the church choir with his dad. He sang with various choirs throughout his life, including a barber shop quartet and the choir of St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans, MA.
Edward served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1969, completing two tours in Vietnam, and was later stationed at the Pentagon in Washington D.C, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After active duty, he spent 15 years in the Naval Reserves, and continued his career in public service as a systems analyst for the General Services Administration. He married Barbara Ann Gould in 1967, and they lived together with their three children in Northern Virginia, before retiring to Cape Cod in 2001.
Anyone who knew him would say Ed was their rock and trusted sounding board, that if they ever needed him, he was right there – “Steady Eddie.” Always with a twinkle in his eye, he was known for his dry wit and charm that could lighten any mood, but most of all for his honor and integrity.
Along with his wife, Barbara, Edward is survived by his daughter, Tracy Alexandra Weber, of Ardmore, PA; daughter, Dana Leigh Weber, and son-in-law, Andrej Ausing, of Medford, MA; son, Mark Edward Eri Weber, and daughter-in-law, Pamela, of Herndon, VA; grandsons, Ryan Weber, Evan Weber, and Logan Ausing; and his four sisters Dee Morrow, Pat Huber, Cathy Weber, and Betty Lieberman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being made by Nickerson Funeral Home of Orleans, MA and will be announced at a later date. For online condolences and updates, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Ed’s honor to the Wounded Warriors Project which supports our military veterans.
