Gunther Klink, 78 EASTHAM – Gunther J. Klink, 78, of Eastham, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 surrounded by his beloved family. He was the devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, Rose Klink of Eastham. Born May 30, 1941 he grew up in Paramus, NJ, the son of hard working German immigrants. Gunther served 37 years with the Paramus Police Department where he was an integral part of the Detective Division and an investigator on many high profile cases in Paramus at the time. He earned his bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and retired as a Detective Lieutenant in 1999. Proud “washashores,” Gunther and Rose bought their first cottage in Eastham in 1969 and spent summers and holidays introducing family and friends to all that Cape Cod has to offer. In 2000 Gunther and Rose moved to Eastham full-time where they enjoyed Cape Cod sunsets, fishing and exploring the waters off Cape Cod in their Grady White boat the “Irish Rose.” Most of all, Gunther was happiest when he was making memories with his treasured family. In addition to his wife, Rose, Gunther is survived by his three sons, Edward and his wife Kathleen, Stephen and his wife Liz, Timothy and his wife Tish, grandchildren Elizabeth, Mackenzie, Brendan and Samantha, sister Anita, beloved nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. Memorial contributions in Gunther’s memory can be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 1893 Memphis, TN 38101-9950

We were so lucky to be friends and neighbors with the Klink family on Cape Cod. We have great memories of boating, fishing, beach parties and just fun socializing with them all through the years. We always considered them special friends and will miss Gunther's hearty laugh. He was someone who you can never forget. There will be a empty place on Pierce Road. May he rest in peace and always be remembered in everyone's heart.

Thank you Gunther for the most wonderful gift I have ever received, your amazing son Stephen. He followed in your footsteps and became not only a caring and compassionate police Lieutenant but the best husband and father I could ask for. We will lean on each other while mourning you. Rest in Peace. We love you.

We go back a long way Gunther, glad I had the opportunity to talk to you several weeks ago, it was long overdue. You were always the go to guy back in the Bureau, always calm, and making decisions that were to prove to be the right ones. Seems as if we are slowly leaving this earth one by one, very few remain of those you and I knew. In between all those work years you and Rose raised a fine family, I feel that I was fortunate to have known you and the family. Time to say goodbye, hope we will meet again. Your good friend, Tom Delaney

Grandpa, you were the strongest, bravest, and funniest person I have ever met. I will never forget all the adventurous we embarked on together. We would rise with the sun for days full of laughter on the Irish Rose. The thing I looked forward to most at the end of every school year was the fact that I would be able to escape to Cape Cod and spend the majority of my summer with you. You are the soul reason our entire family is able to call The Cape our second home. You were able to find a special place where we could all just spend time together and make lifelong memories without having any other care in the world. You would have gone to the ends of the earth in order to make everyone around you have a smile on their face. This is proven by the days Mac, Elizabeth, Brendan, and I were treated not only once, but twice in the same day, with a trip to Nauset Ice Cream.
You were an amazing man, having been on the police force for 37 years and creating the beautiful family I am privileged enough to call my own. There is no other Grandfather in the world that could have been as loving, and kind hearted to me as you were. I will carry on your legacy with me until we meet again. Grandpa, my life is empty without you but I know that you would only want our family to grow together as a whole during this hardship. So together we will grieve our loss while sharing stories of our fondest moments with you. I know you always loved seeing us succeed so everyday, I will continue to make you proud. I will love and miss you for eternity.
Love,
Your Sweetie

Sending my sincere condolences to the entire Klink family. I had the honor and privilege to work with Gunther for 18 years in the Paramus PD detective bureau. I was promoted to detective in 1981 and Gunther was the detective sergeant on the squad I was assigned to. He was my first line supervisor and mentor until 1985 when he was promoted to detective lieutenant. In 1992, I was promoted to detective sergeant, and most fortunately was assigned to be his sergeant. In fact, during those 18 years, I believe we were the only two persons in the detective division to have worked together without a squad change. Gunther successfully investigated many high profile cases, and allowed those under his command to do the same. I will miss him and know that his presence in my life led me to success. RIP Gunther

It is rare to find a father-in-law that you like nevermind truly love. Gunther was one of those rare finds. From the beginning, he treated me like a daughter. I know for certain that he loved me just as much as I loved him. We will all miss the holidays and family events with Gunther but what I will miss are the summer days we spent with him on The Cape. We would often adventure on The Irish Rose. There were beautiful sunny days when we putted around for hours and treacherous stormy days when Gunther brought us safely back to habor. We would always find him waiting on the deck as we strolled back from the beach wanting to hear what adventures Mac, Sam, Elizabeth and Brendan had experienced that day.
Gunther, you should be enormously proud of this wonderful family you and Rose have created. We will comfort each other as we grieve your loss. There is no doubt that would be your wish. Rest in peace sweet man knowing you are loved.

Grandpa, your legacy has shaped not only our whole family, but me into the person I am today. Your love for family has taught me the importance of spending time together and cherishing the little moments. One of your favorite things was seeing the whole family spend time together, I could tell by the big smile on you face at all our family gatherings. It was your hard work that helped build that space for us to be together and make memories. Growing up with you in my life is something that can never be replaced. I will miss waking up early in the morning, seeing you at the counter with your coffee cup, hearing the words, "How was your nap?". I will miss hearing you say "I love you, sweetie.". I will miss the boat rides on the Irish Rose, the trips to see the sunsets, the holidays, the laughs, telling you things I knew would make you proud of me, I will miss everything. Most importantly I will miss you, but you have left behind the most amazing legacy that our family will carry on with you in our hearts and minds. Rest Easy Grandpa, I love you more than anything in this world.
