EASTHAM – Jeffrey J. Vecchione, of Eastham and formerly of East Douglas, died unexpectedly at home on May 18, 2010.
Jeff was the son of the late Felix S. and Viola L. (Hippert) Vecchione. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda, of Eastham; his son, Tye and girlfriend, Jennifer Kelliher of Chatham and son Keith, also of Chatham; brother Donald of Orleans, brother David and wife Mitchell of East Douglas, sister Eleanor Luneau and husband Phil of East Douglas, sister-in-law Cynthia Deslaurias of Eastham; and many nieces and nephews. Jeff was predeceased by his brother Guy and nephew Sergeant Mark Vecchione.
Born in Worcester, Jeff was raised in East Douglas, where he graduated from Douglas Memorial High School. He spent much of his childhood at his father’s garage, Douglas Motor Sales, pumping gas and pursuing his interest in motors. As a young man, he followed this love for automobiles, learning the art of auto body repair and becoming an automobile appraiser, working for Hanover Insurance and then Commerce Insurance. He also spent several years at Assumption College as the maintenance mechanic and then Chabot Motors in Millbury as a service manager. Over the years, he meticulously restored several cars, including his most recent project, a white ’64 Ford Thunderbolt. Jeff has enjoyed the past 13 years working with the young men and women in the Auto Collision department at Cape Cod Tech.
When Jeff was in high school, his parents purchased several properties in Eastham, where they would spend summers for the next twenty years. Jeff and Brenda, and later, the boys, too, enjoyed many vacations on the Lower Cape. In 1990, Jeff and Brenda, and the boys moved to Eastham to live and work. More recently, Jeff and Brenda had been leaving the Cape on busy weekends and during the summer to spend idyllic days in New Portland, Maine, where Jeff enjoyed four-wheeling and snowmobiling in the northwestern mountains.
Visiting hours will be from 4p-8p on Thursday May 20th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A 10am Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc on Friday, May 21 in Orleans, MA.
