

We the family of John Quincy announce his peaceful passing to his heavenly home on February 14, 2011 at the age of 91. He had been under the competent and compassionate care of Liberty Commons of Chatham, MA for a brief time. He was born on December 19, 1919 in New York, NY and was raised in Westchester County. He attended the Irving School in Briarcliff Manor, NY during which time he reached the status of Eagle Scout. He was awarded a degree in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA in 1942. While at Lehigh, he was elected to Tau Beta Pi, the electrical engineering honor society, and was president of Delta Upsilon social fraternity.
He proudly served his country in the 94th Signal Battalion of the US Army from 1942 to 1946. While in the Army, he served in the European Theater of Operations, specifically the Rhineland, Argennes and Central European Campaigns. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
He was an executive for the York Telephone Company, now Verizon, from 1946 to 1984 retiring as Director of Independent Company Relations for Upstate New York. He moved from Niskayuna, NY to Orleans, Cape Cod, MA in 1985.
While in Orleans, he was active in the Nauset Newcomers Club where he started the canoe and biking clubs. He was on the Board of Directors of the Companion Animal Program, a member of the Orleans Cable Advisory Committee, a member of the Orleans Yacht Club and President of the Lehigh Alumni Club of Cape Cod and The Islands.
He lived life to the fullest. He was devoted to his family, loved camping, biking the rail trails, canoeing, boating to the outer beach, swimming in Crystal Lake, visiting the shut-ins with his dog Cindy and tirelessly doing volunteer work.
He is survived by the love of his life, Rose Agar Quincy to whom he was married for 66 years. He is predeceased by a sister, Frances Q. Towne, and a brother Edmund Quincy. He is survived by a brother and sister: John and Frances Billenstein. He is also survived by five children; Virginia H. Quincy of Newburyport, MA, Barbara I. Quincy and spouse, Tom Amundsen of Hermitage PA, Joanna Q. and spouse Rev. Michael Duda of Rockport, MA, Elizabeth A. Quincy of Rupert VT, and John D. Quincy of Albany, NY.
He lived to see six grandchildren; Mathew W. Nickerson, Christy E. Nickerson-Little and spouse Brodie, John M. Duda and spouse Allegra, Rachael Q. Duda and her partner Matt Leason, Vance Q. Barton and Bryne A. Quincy Tufts, and three great grandchildren; Gwendolyn V. Duda, Auden M. Duda and Oliver Q. Little.
All who knew him were captivated by his warm smile and gracious acceptance. He will be missed by all.
