Born in Middletown, OH on April 2, 1931, the daughter of Fred and Joan Danford, she attended St. Margaret's Girls School and graduated from Wellesley College, marrying Walter Swirsky in 1953.
Martha first and foremost loved her family, supporting her children in their many endeavors and making room for many family pets. The memories of Martha behind the wheel of the family station wagon hauling five children, a boat behind and another on the roof from New Jersey to Michigan will bring a smile to those who knew her. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, enthusiastic class mother and organizer of boating certification classes for the neighborhood children. A devoted homemaker, her homemade popcorn balls at Halloween were a neighborhood favorite. As her children grew, she took courses in accounting to automate her husband’s law practice accounting system. With the love of her life, Walter, she was active as a downhill skier and certified scuba diver. She was a member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, serving in Altar Guild and the Seamen’s Church Institute. She will be missed by all who knew her for her gentle and giving heart.
Predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Moon she is survived by her daughters, Joanne Crain, of Princeton, NJ, Diane Stevens of Clinton, CT, her sons, Ian Swirsky and his wife Carol Swirsky of Rainbow Lake, NY, Robert Swirsky, of Scottsdale, AZ, and Mark Swirsky and his partner Mitchell Ivers, of New York City; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Daniel, Ann-Marie, Natasha, Austin, Erica, Adrian, Hunter, Hoeldon, and her great-granddaughter, Virginya.
