RECEPTION AT ORLEANS YACHT CLUB POSTPONED
The reception that was to be held at the Orleans Yacht Club on Wednesday, August 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM has been POSTPONED. A rescheduled date and time will be announced.
ORLEANS - Nancy A. (Manfredi) Benz, 74, of Orleans, died on Saturday, August 14,
2010 at the Orleans Convalescent Center after a long illness. She leaves her beloved
husband of 50 years, Edward G. Benz of Brewster.
Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey to George Manfredi and Meta (Knab) Manfredi, Nancy
grew up in River Edge, New Jersey and graduated from Trenton State Teacher's College.
She met her husband-to-be in 1957 on a family vacation to Cape Cod and never looked
back. Nancy and Ed lived briefly in Eastham before settling in Orleans. Nancy taught at
Orleans Elementary School for several years while raising her young family.
A woman of considerable artistic talent with a bright future as a teacher. Nancy chose to
put family above all else. An endlessly devoted wife and mother, she considered her
family to be her proudest achievement.
Nancy cherished the natural beauty of the Cape and time spent on beach and boating
excursions. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlepoint, traveling and entertaining her
large circle of friends. She was a member of the Orleans Yacht Club and St. Joan of Arc
Church, and donated her time and talents to numerous local organizations including the
Orleans Recreation Commission and the Orleans Historical Society.
Nancy will be remembered for her engaging personality, big laugh and kind and generous
nature. Blessed with undeniable spirit and uncommon grace, she enriched the lives of all
who knew her.
Besides her husband. Nancy is survived by her two children, Alison Benz Czuchra and
her husband Bert of Orleans, and Edward G. Benz, Jr. and his wife Amy of Orleans, and
four grandchildren, Andrew and Ben Czuchra and Haley and Georgia Benz, all of
Orleans. She is also survived by her brother, George A. Manfredi of Rancho Palos
Verdes, California.
A reception will be held at the Orleans Yacht Club on Cove Road in Orleans
at a future date. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands
