Nancy Pond Hastings

She was born to the late Ralph and Elizabeth Pond, Nov 25, 1933 in Springfield, MA. She graduated from Agawam High School in 1950 and received a BA in English at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA in 1954. While at UMASS, she was captain of the Drill Team, manager of the Women’s Athletic Association, and a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority serving as Rush Chair and Vice President. She married her high school sweetheart Judson W Hastings, Jr. in 1953 and they lived together in both Agawam, Amherst before retiring to Orleans, MA. Nancy taught school in Agawam, Amherst, South Hadley, and on Cape Cod.

Nancy was an active member at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in South Hadley and later St David’s Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth. She was a lifelong singer and enjoyed singing in the choir and weekly book group meetings. She was always quilting and loved to cook and bake and spending time with her large family.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 70 years, Judson Hastings. She was a proud mother to four children (Ann Saucier, William Hastings, Susan Lane, and Bruce Hastings) and proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM, with burial services at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 1:45 PM.
