Nate was born in Hartford, Connecticut on January 15th, 1948—the only child of Freida (Riback) and Jerome Apatow.
He graduated from Boston University in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and later received an MBA from UConn in 1974.
After college, Nate moved to Eastham and was hired as Town Accountant. It was there at Eastham Town Hall where he met the love of his life, Karen (Larson). They married by candlelight at Old Sturbridge Village in 1984.
Nate went on to work at Excel Switching as Chief Financial Officer. He had a long, successful career in accounting before retiring at the age of 70.
He later achieved his dream of building a house by the water in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Besides drinking coffee by the creek, his favorite things included walking the beach, reading, gardening, driving his prized pickup truck, and collecting "treasures" from unlikely places to gift his friends and family.
Nate is survived by Karen, his wife of nearly 40 years, and his four children; Joe, Jack, Jillian, and Julia—or, as he lovingly referred to them, Cement Head, John Michael, Snake, and Poodle. His exceptional kindness and sense of humor made an impression on everyone he met. He was faithfully and utterly one-of-a-kind.
A celebration of life will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home on Wednesday September 18th at 2:00 PM. A private burial service will follow.
