Richard L. Stahl (Dick) of Eastham, Massachusetts, formerly of Ridgewood, New Jersey, passed away on Dec 30, 2013, at age 88. He leaves his wife, Priscilla Ann, after 68 years of marriage. He is also survived by his four daughters, Sharon Pond of Foxboro, Massachusetts; Pamela Foley of Duxbury, Massachusetts; Patricia Harold of Quincy, Massachusetts; and Mary Clark of Mahwah, New Jersey; his six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Chuck Stahl, of Austin, Texas; and his sister, Barbara Brewer, of Houston, Texas.
Richard was born in Sterling, Illinois in 1925. He then moved with his family to Kentucky and then Dallas, Texas. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served in World War II as an airplane mechanic in Egypt. Immediately after the war, he married Priscilla Robbins and settled in Ridgewood, New Jersey. For a short time, he worked in the treasury department of the town office. He then got a job at Mobil Oil in New York City as an accountant and went to Pace University at night to earn his bachelor’s degree. He graduated from Pace in 1956 with a BA in business.
Richard had a long and fruitful career at Mobil Oil. He traveled extensively throughout the world, mainly the middle east. When he retired at age 61, he was the Controller of the International Division. He and Priscilla then took up permanent residency in Eastham on Cape Cod. They thoroughly enjoyed their retirement, spending time with friends and family and doing extensive work with Habitat for Humanity.
Richard will be especially remembered for his sharp mind for numbers. He was a wonderful, kind, and patient teacher to all of his daughters and grandchildren. He always said, “Many things in this world do not make sense. But numbers do.” Richard was kind, loving and so generous. He will be missed by all but will hold a special place in many hearts.
A private service will be held at his home in Eastham, Massachusetts. There will be a private graveside burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Operation Smiles would be appreciated.
