BREWSTER – Richard W. (Dick) Stocks, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. He was the husband to the love of his life, Sharon C. (Sheri) Stocks and the son of the late William and Adele Stocks.
He was born in Hartford, CT and graduated from Manchester High School in 1962. He studied at Hartt College of Music and Morse Business College, where he majored in composition, theory, and business management. He was a member of the 102nd Army Band and spent six years in the army reserves. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 52 years and they have resided on the Cape since 1976.
Dick and Sheri owned and operated a charming store in Orleans – The Wood’N Nickel - for nine years. Dick was a music teacher, arranger, composer and performer. He was the Director of Music at the Academy of Performing Arts in Orleans and played in many bands, theaters and at countless functions throughout the years. He was multi-talented and extremely passionate with everything he did. He cared about making a difference in the lives of his students and everyone he met. He loved to golf, woodworking projects, playing softball, his “prize” rhody’s and spending time with his family and friends. He was kind, sweet, selfless, and smart and led his life always with a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Sheri, and his two daughters: Kerry (Stocks) Vye and her husband Jim of Portsmouth, RI; Jennifer (Stocks) Schwartz and her husband Ken of Middletown, RI; his three grandchildren: Connor Vye, Kylie and Ryan Schwartz; and his sister-in-law Susan Coe O’Brien.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at Brewster Baptist Church on Thursday, December 12, 2019 followed by a celebration of life at The Captain Linnell House in Orleans.
