Robert E (Bob) Janson, of Brewster, died February 21, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital after a short illness. Bob, 89, was born October 3, 1932 in Englewood, NJ. He grew up in Palisades Park, NJ, graduating from Leonia High School in 1950. Enlisting in the US Navy, Bob served in the SeaBees CBMU 101 during the Korean conflict. He was a proud, decorated but humble veteran.
Bob’s military experience led him to a career in telecommunications and electronics, working for New Jersey Bell Telephone, Litton Industries and other companies. In 1978, Bob moved to Cape Cod with his wife Wilma and sons Robert and Chris. For over 24 years he ran Viking Electronics, a small electronics business in North Eastham where he enjoyed helping fishermen, truckers, pleasure boaters and all the characters that made up the local color of lower Cape Cod. He and his family were charter members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Harwich, helping found this new congregation in 1979. After retiring in 2002, he enjoyed working with computers, volunteering at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, playing with his cats, enjoying Cape Cod, and time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wilma (Britsch) Janson, his sons Robert W Janson and his wife Christine of Dennis, and J. Christian Janson of Newburyport and Brewster, his brother Richard H Janson and his wife, Debra, of Murrels Inlet, South Carolina, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory are encouraged to the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History.
