Thomas J. Broderick

Thomas Joseph Broderick, 71, of Brewster, MA, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on September 8th, 2011, after a long battle with esophageal cancer. He was the loving husband of Carolyn (Jarvis) Broderick.

Tom was born in Boston, MA, on July 20th, 1940, to Thomas and Kathleen (Curran) Broderick. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Brookline, MA, where he was All-Catholic on the football team. Tom later graduated from Northeastern University after studying Industrial Relations, and went on to a successful career in retail management working for Stop & Shop and First National supermarkets.

In 1998, Tom retired to Cape Cod with his wife, where he enjoyed boating and playing golf as a member of The Captains Golf Course in Brewster. He volunteered as a board member of the Friends of Brewster Elders, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Tom also gave his time to the town of Orleans, collecting water samples in the Bay for environmental studies.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Tom, Jr. (TJ) and his wife Shalini Broderick of Franklin, MA, Timothy Broderick of Manchester, CT, and Jeffrey Broderick and his wife Erin Brown of Lowell, MA. He also leaves his grandchildren, Aiden and Hannah. Tom is also survived by his brother John Broderick, of North Andover, and his sister Mary Connors, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Catherine, Rita, and Carol.

Family and friends will be welcomed from 4 to 7pm on Sunday, September 11th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA 02653. A Catholic mass will be celebrated at 11am on Monday, September 12, 2011, at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA 02631.
