

Carmella "Millie" Jewkes, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2015 at Halifax Hospice of Ormond Beach. She was surrounded by her loving son, John "Randy" Jewkes and niece, Heidi Parris. Millie was born on August 18, 1921 to Nunzio and Julia Capelli in Hammonton, New Jersey. She was the last survivor of 14 siblings and their spouses. Millie and her late husband, John "Jack" moved to Ormond Beach in the early 1980's from Toms River, New Jersey. Millie and her husband, Jack owned an insurance agency together as well as a motel on the Jersey Shore. One of Millie's greatest accomplishments was being elected Vice Chair for the Democratic Party of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. Millie had the privilege of meeting President John F. Kennedy and showed him around her home town. In her free time, Millie loved to play bingo and cards. Due to her love for the game, her late husband Jack affectionately nicknamed her "Diamond Lil". Jack and Millie were married for more than 50 years until his passing in 2001. Millie is survived by her sons, Anthony Jewkes, NC and John R. Jewkes FL; daughter Judith Ann Duffy (Peter), NC; four grandchildren and niece/caregiver, Heidi Parris. Millie's children would like to extend special thanks to Heidi for her commitment and compassion as a caregiver. The family has asked that donations be made in Millie's memory to Halifax Health Hospice. A visitation will be held at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL on Sept. 12, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:00 am, with a Memorial Service beginning at 10:00 am., with Pastor Steve Parris of Rima Ridge Baptist Church officiating.
