Crystal Harkness Callahan, 85, born June 20, 1924, Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida, was called Home on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was greeted by two loving husbands and a multitude of passed family members. Her first husband, Richard Harkness, passed in 1988. The were together happily married for 43 years. They did everything together from business to pleasure, including golfing every weekend. It is said that he is the one who sent the second husband to her, William Callahan. They were joyous for 13 years before he passed in 2006. They also spent days on the golf course that Bill owned when they married. She was lucky enough to be loved and blessed with two men in her life that thought she was the greatest girl around. Crystal had a passion for golf and played into her early 80's. She was the envy of all, carrying a four handicap and always shooting the ball straight. She had three holes in one and won Club Champion three times when in her 70's. She worked off and on during her life, starting with farm life. She always had farming in her blood to the end. In the 1940's she sewed car seats for Fisher Body Corp in Michigan. She moved to Florida in 1955 and lived and died in the same house she and Richard built in 1957. She worked for many years for the Ormond Beach Volunteer Fire Department as secretary and in the early 70's helped her husband get the Halifax Area Boys Club started in this area. Her passion may have been golf, but it was her cooking and expertise in the kitchen that her family will always remember. She made the best apple pie in the world, always proclaiming how easy it was, but no one has been able to copy it yet. Making food for family always made her happy. She was continuously laughing and smiling and always put her family first. She was loved by all who came in contact with her and her presence will be missed. She was known as "Granny" by young and old alike and she loved the name. She is survived by her only child, Charlene Harkness, Ormond Beach; four grandchildren: Christy Beltrami, Ormond Beach, Tammy (Allen) Mancini, Palm Coast, Jamie (Jason) Boudreau, Palm Coast, and Robert (Ann) Beltrami III, Palm Coast; six great-grandchildren: Felicity Morgan, Christian Beltrami, Sebastian Beltrami, Brianne Rucker, Travis Beltrami, Ethan Mancini and one on the way. She also has one great-great-grandchild, Blake Morgan and her sister Barbara Cuatt and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved her family more than anything else in this world and we will miss her terribly, her infectious laugh, the smile and the encouraging words that she always had for everyone. We wish to thank all the nurses and aids from Vitas Hospice Care, especially Susan and Barbara, for their care and concern, they were wonderful in our time of need. Funeral services will be held 1:00p.m. Friday April 9, 2010 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 458 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Thrusday 6-8 p.m.
