He graduated from Mainland High School in 1964 and Daytona Beach Community College in 1966. That same year, he married his high school sweetheart. They were happily married for 54 years before his passing.
From 1966-1970, he served honorably as an Army Reservist where he was trained to operate and maintain electrical equipment. His training included cleaning and firing a rifle where he earned the marksman ribbon for his shooting proficiency.
As a young man, he played softball and joined a bowling league. His love of sports continued into adulthood as an avid sports fan and spectator of numerous sports. His favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and the L.A. Dodgers. His entertainment included watching multiple sports such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, College Football, and even golf or bowling in the off-season.
He enjoyed attending live concerts and would enthusiastically sing along with the artists. While at a concert in Daytona Beach’s Peabody Auditorium, his intensity and energy was noticed by The Letterman as the audience sang along while they performed a cover of Kool & the Gang’s Celebration. The Letterman were so impressed with his performance, they invited him to join them on-stage and finish out the song.
At home, he continued his appreciation and love of music. His extensive music collection included vinyl LPs and 45s, 8-tracks tapes, cassette tapes, and compact discs. He was also fond of creating his own music CDs to put his favorite songs together. He was always happy to discuss music, and asked friends and family about their favorite artists. He would then surprise them with a compilation music CD he created for them, much to their delight.
He took pleasure in playing an assortment of card games. With friends or family, he would often play Euchre, Canasta, Hearts, Spades, or Rummy. Occasionally he would play a home game of small-stakes poker with his buddies. On the computer, he had fun playing Free Cell and Spider Solitaire.
After his retirement, he stayed active by seeking out bargain-priced items to sell online.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Sanford and Ethel Inks.
He is survived by his wife, Candice, two sons Kevin and Kerry, seven grandchildren Miranda, Penelope, Keira, Scott, Isabel, Liam, and Wyatt, as well as his sister Dana. He was a loving husband and father, and devoted family man.
The family is thankful they were able to care for him at home, so that he could be surrounded by his loved ones. This was made possible through supplemental care from Kindred Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Kindred Hospice.
