He moved to Holly Hill at a young age and changed his name to Brownlee when his mother remarried several years later. Ed was in the Mainland High School class of 1954. He served 21 years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician chief, retiring in 1975 to Ormond Beach, Florida. He was stationed in Sanford, FL; MD; CA, HI; Key West, Japan, Guam, and aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga. In the Navy, he earned many awards. He was then the parts manager for Sears until 1992. Ed spent many years running the men's league at River Bend Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Judy; children Linda Brownlee of Holly Hill; Ed (Cindy) Brownlee of Ormond Beach; Laura (Larry) Dedrick of Titusville; grandchildren, Pamela (Kevin) Wheat of Ormond Beach, Michael (Crystal) Miller of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Kayden and Mackenzie Wheat, Xander and Jasper Miller; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
Ed was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a man of unwavering principle. As a military man, he carried himself with honor, discipline, and quiet strength—earning the respect of all who knew him. Yet beneath that strong exterior was a deeply compassionate soul, always putting his family first and offering support without hesitation. He led by example, teaching those around him the value of integrity, resilience, and love. Ed's legacy lives on in the stories shared, the lives he shaped, and the enduring strength of his family.
