Our beloved mother, Janet Elizabeth Vodenicker, died peacefully on June 16, 2021, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast and was joyfully reunited with the love of her life, John Paul Vodenicker, who predeceased her in 1992. Janet was born in York, Pennsylvania, on October 14, 1925, to Rev. Willard and Elizabeth Saltzgiver. She had two older brothers, Willard A Saltzgiver and Rev. Luther B. Saltzgiver, both of whom predeceased her.
Janet graduated from Westminster High School in Westminster, Maryland and went on to the York Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated during WWII as a cadet nurse and held nursing positions in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and Florida.
While a cadet nurse, she met John and they were married on September 7, 1947, in El Reno, Oklahoma. Janet and John became parents in 1948 and 1951 with the birth of John Jr and then a double blessing with the birth of twin boys, James Richard and Jere Lee.
In 1955 they moved to Daytona Beach, FL, and after working at Halifax Hospital for several years she joined the OB/gyn practice of Dr. Charles Stump as his nurse and surgical assistant. They worked together for 24 years and she made each of their patients feel special.
Upon retirement Janet found a new passion in the game of golf and was able to join her boys in their games. She played golf with the Riviera Ladies Golf Association and the Mountain Aire Ladies Golf Association. Janet and John built a summer home in West Jefferson, N.C., in 1990 and loved their time there; she often referred to it as “her Heaven on Earth”.
In 2004 Janet moved to Bishop’s Glen Retirement Community where she was actively involved in the Resident Committees. She made many wonderful friends and truly enjoyed her life there. Janet was a member of Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church. Her faith and family were of utmost importance to her.
Survivors include: sons John (Sharon), James (Johnette) and Jere (Della); grandchildren John (“Trip”) (Kathi) and Tracy (Chris Stowers); great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Annie, Johnny, Megan and Caleb. All of us love her dearly and will miss her greatly. Other survivors include seven nieces.
At her request there will be no public service. If desired you may make a gift to Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church’s Memorial Fund at 1035 W Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
