

She was born to the late Arthur S and Mary Irene Pouchot on January 11, 1919 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Her mother passed away when Joan was 7 yrs old. She was raised by her stepmother Anna Kathryn Pouchot.
Joan graduated from high school in Norristown, PA and was a member of the National Honor Society. She then attended and graduated from Hood College, Fredrick, MD. She spent her Junior year of college in Paris, France earning a Degree Superior from the University of Paris La Sorbonne.
In 1939 she left Paris at the urging of fellow students who were already conscripted into the German Army. Her Trans-Atlantic voyage on the Normandy was the last civilian voyage before the ship was converted to a troop transport during WWII
Joan married Lawrence H. Deemer, Sr. on October 5, 1940. During WWII she worked in war supplies manufacturing.
Joan was a wonderful homemaker and loving mother. She loved entertaining, traveling and belonged to many Civic and cultural groups including Museum Guilds and garden clubs. She was past president of Cherry Laurel Garden Club, Daytona Beach. She was a 25 year member of Captain James Ormond chapter #3-079 of the Daughters of The American Revolution and First United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach.
Her other passion was golf. She was a past member of Tomoka Oaks Country Club and Halifax Plantation Golf and Country Club, where she scored a hole in one at the age of 80.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years Lawrence H. Deemer, Sr.
Left to carry on her memory are her children Lawrence H. Deemer, Jr. (Colleen). Sandra Harra (Edward). Suzanne Luck (Steven). Her grandchildren Scott Deemer (Katina Paitaris) Erin Deemer (Mike Harris) Jeffrey Deemer (Autumn Hayes) Matt Harra, Taylor Luck, Jace Luck. Her great grandchildren Easton Deemer and Charlotte Harris.
A service to celebrate Joan’s life with Rev. Lynn Wagner presiding, is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday May 27, 2015 at the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, located at 548 North Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. ~ 2:00 P.M. An interment will take place immediately following the service at Volusia Memorial Park, located at 550 North Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joan’s memory to Captain James Ormond Chapter #3-079, D.A.R. PO Box 216 Ormond Beach, Fl. 32175.
