John Jack H. Tanges Jr

John H. Tanges, JR passed away at his home on the 26th of May after a short bout with cancer. He was born in Nyack, NY on 31 May 1931 to John and Ethel Tanges. He attended Cornell University with a degree in Dairy Engineering and worked in the family business on Long Island before moving to Ormond Beach in 1965. He served a double duty during the Korean War.

Mr. Tanges along with his wife Peggy owned several manufacturing businesses doing contracts with the Federal Government of electro-mechanical products and molded rubber products before retiring in 1996. He is a member of Riverview United Methodist Church, member of the Daytona Beach Boat Club, Daytona Beach Ski Club, Sons of the American Revolution, Society of the War of 1812, General Society of Colonial Wars, Membership in U.S. Calvary, Moose Lodge #1263, and First Lt. in Civil Air Patrol SER FL 10 in Ormond Beach.

Mr. Tanges’ 2nd love was flying. He started at the age of 16. He called himself the old “tail dragger.” Planes with nose gear were not in service yet. He was an avid reader of Military History. He owned different planes, selling one to get $3.00 for a license to marry Peggy. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, fishing the Keys, skiing Colorado and Switzerland, and gambling out west.

Mr. Tanges is survived by his wife Peggy (Ellen) of 60 years, son David (Anita) of Ormond Beach, 2 granddaughters Allison Tanges and Ashley Holland, 2 great-grandsons, JT and Clayten Holland and great-granddaughter, Tiffany Tanges, 2 nephews and 1 niece. Mr. Tanges was preceded in death by son John Tanges, III.

A funeral service will be 11:00AM, Thursday May 31, 2012 at the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00AM until the service.
