

Martha Greenleaf (Shave) Halling (widow of the late Dr. Milton Horwitz) went home to be with Jesus on June 25, 2012. Ms. Halling was born May 17, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts Martha graduated from the University of Central Florida (then known as FTU) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and earned an MBA at Stetson University. She served as the Bursar at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University during the 1970’s and became a CPA in 1976 and served as President of the Volusia chapter of The Florida Institute of CPA’s in 1986 and 87. Martha retired as a professor of accounting from Daytona Beach Community College (Daytona State College) after a 21.5 (1978 to June 30, 1999) year teaching career, where she was selected for the DBCC Alumni Faculty Hall of Fame award in 1990. She was the Alpha Phi Sorority representative to the Daytona Beach Chapter of Pan hellenic where she served as Chair of the Scholarship Fund. She also served 15 years on the City of Ormond Beach Beautification Advisory Board from 1973 to 1988. She was a member of the DAR Capt. James Ormond Chapter, Ormond Beach, Florida, and she served as treasurer for 10 years from (2000 to 2010) at the Ormond Heritage Condominium with terrific Board members. Martha was second member of her family to become the Commodore of a Florida yacht club. Her father, John Whittier Greenleaf, Jr. was commodore of the Coral Reef Yacht Club in 1980 in Coconut Grove, Florida. She served as the only female Commodore in the 115 year history of Halifax River Yacht Club in 2003. Also a member of the Ormond Yacht Club since November 22, 2008. Martha is survived by her two children George W. Shave Jr. and wife Kelly of Indialantic, Florida and Deborah Shave Policastro of Oviedo, Florida and five wonderful grandchildren Lauren Nicole Shave, Steven Craig Policastro Jr. Sage Greenleaf Policastro, Sarah Chapman Policastro and Alexa Gray Shave all living in Florida as well as her longtime friend Jack E. Newman. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 30, 2012 at First United Methodist Church located at 336 South Halifax Dr., Ormond Beach, Florida.
