

Muriel Walker Butler, 100, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2014 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. Muriel was born August 20, 1913 to Rev. John Irvine and Alberta Louis Walker in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Muriel was raised in Iowa and Missouri and graduated from Trinity Lutheran School of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo. After receiving her RN degree, she moved to Daytona Beach in 1939. She worked at Halifax Hospital for many years and also for Dr. Slaughter, Dr. Logan Jennings, and Dr. David Sime. Muriel organized a Garden Club in the late 40's in Daytona Beach and was chairman of the Palmettes in 1951. She was a former member of the Daytona Beach Golf and Country Club in Franklin, NC. She is a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She and her husband Chuck retired in 1970 and they built a cabin in Springlake, Dillard, GA. They loved the mountains and spent 8 months out of the entire year there. She is predeceased by her husband Chuck and brothers Irvine and Calvin. She is survived by her sister Gladys Jennings (Ormond Beach), daughters Bobbie (Don) Norton (St. Augustine), and Sherry Davis (Ormond Beach) with whom she lived; 2 grandaughters, Melinda Bent (Huntsville, AL), April Stephens (St. Augustine) and grandson Chuck (Barbara) Norton (St. Augustine; 6 great grandchildren, Autumn (Allen) Parker, Brenda (Chris) Rasicote, Wade Abern, Katelyn and Kimberly Norton (St. Augustine) and Samantha Bent (Huntsville, AL); 2 great-great-granddaughters, Bella Lion and Raven Parker ( St. Augustine) and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Fri., Jan 10, 2014 from 5 -7 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home., 548 North Nova Road, Ormond Beach and the service will be Sat., Jan. 11, 2014 at 1:00 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach with Rev. Mary McKey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129
