On June 29th, 2018, the heavens gleamed brighter when Richard George Gion gracefully entered them to join God and his wife of over sixty years Pauline. Richard’s roots of hard work and family values sprouted from a North Dakota wheat field, where his Hungarian immigrant parents created a home for him and his six siblings. In January 1954 as a senior at Michigan State University, Richard found love at first sight with Pauline Henning, declaring immediately to his fraternity brothers that she would be the girl he’d marry. They married October 23rd of that year, together creating a life rich with laughter, faith, and of course abundant love. Richard’s long career in sales brought his family to Colorado, Oklahoma, California, New York, and Florida, making their last move to Ormond Beach in 1980. During times when he wasn’t working, Richard filled his life with gardening and music. Richard’s legacy of unconditional love and relentless humor will be upheld by his six children, Mark, Lauren, David, Dwight, Susan, and Tom, thirteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. The celebration of Richard Gion’s life will be held at Prince of Peace on Thursday, July 5th at 3pm. Reception immediately to follow in the social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that resources are spent to support local hospice and Alzheimer's research or to simply make someone smile today, an act for which Richard was best known.
