
He was born in 1929 in Windber, Pennsylvania, to the late George and Margaret (Mihalcik)
Bodnar. Bob was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1953. He attained
the rank of sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Bob received his bachelor’s degree from
California State Teacher’s College in Pennsylvania. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in
education from the University of Pittsburgh.Bob taught industrial arts and mathematics
for over 41 years, mostly in Volusia County.
Over the course of a 35-year local career, Bob taught at Seabreeze Senior High School,
Seabreeze Junior High School, Silver Sands Middle School and Daytona Beach Community
College. He was the co-founder and past president of the Volusia County Industrial Arts
Teachers’ Association and was a member of the Florida Retired Educators’ Association. He also
served on the Board of Adjustment for the City of Ormond Beach. Bob was a member
of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in DeLand. He previously had been a
parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Daytona Beach, where he had served as
both an usher and bingo caller for many years. Prior to his retirement, he also was active in
Marriage Encounter. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Irene (Barrett) Bodnar; his son and
daughter-in-law, Robert, Jr. and Roberta Bodnar, Deland; and three grandsons, John, Michael
and Danny. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers George, John
and Joseph; four sisters,Margaret, Mildred, Anna and Mary Ann; and “Sofie,” his devoted
Yorkshire Terrier. The family will receive friends Saturday, 9:00 am-10:30 am , August 12 , 2017 at
Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 548 North Nova Road, Ormond Beach followed by an 11:00 am Funeral Mass at Prince of Peace
Catholic Church 600 N Nova Road, Ormond Beach. Burial with Military honors will be in Volusia Memorial Park.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Peters Catholic Church, Deland
Building Fund.
