Wayne Thomas Gay

Wayne T. Gay passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2012 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on March 6, 1933, the third of five children: (late) Rev. C.W. Gay, (late) Jacqueline Langrick, (late) Dwight Gay and Lyndal Welch to (late) Cater Thelmon Gay and Claudia Lee (Steadman) Gay in Moultrie, GA. The family moved to Pierson, FL shortly after his birth. He joined the US Army and served as a cook at the end of the Korean War. On October 30, 1955 he married the love of his life Claire Eileen Kane and together raised five children: Dennis (Nancy) Gay (Jacksonville), Daniel (Holly) Gay (Ormond Beach), Mary Jane (Chuck) Dale (Ormond Beach), David (Cheryl) Gay (Bensalem, PA), Darin (Sandy) Gay (Ormond Beach). Wayne worked with the FEC Railroad for 15 years and then spent the next 40 years in the Fern industry as a fern grower until his retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, and a former deacon of First Baptist Church of Ormond (NKA Riverbend). His favorite past time was spending time with his wife of 57 years, his five children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also loved going to the Smokie Mountains of Tennessee to watch the leaves change in the Fall. In addition to his wife and children, Wayne leaves behind his ten grandchildren: Sarah (Dustin) White, Ryan (Kayla) Dale, Christa (Eric) Nolan, Amanda Gay, Justin (Tara) Dale, Jordan Gay, Steven Gay, Emily Gay, Cheyenne Gay, and Colby Gay and two great-grandchildren: MacKenna and Landon Peace. Although his family will miss him, they rejoice in the knowledge that he is now and eternally more with his savior.

A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Tuesday June 19, 2012 at the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Visitation will be held Monday June 18, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00PM at the funeral home. Online condolence may be shared with the family at www.volusiamemorialfunerals.com.
