It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Alan Arthur Thompson on October 1st, 2011 in his 92nd year. Alan was the dearly loved husband, for 59 years, of Shirley (nee Firth) and cherished father of Barbara and Timothy and his wife Kim. He will be sadly missed by his sister Shirley Hitchins, sister-in-law Marion Firth and brother and sister-in-law Grant and Rosa Maria Firth. Al was predeceased by his two sisters Audrey Browning and Verna Grant. Al was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Canadian Army. He was a member of Kingsview United Church and the Kiwanis Club of Oshawa and was active in the commercial stationary and office equipment business. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234), on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donation to the C.N.I.B. or Durham Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
