It is with both broken hearts and loving memories that we announce the passing of Carmelita Ring on February 7, 2026, after a long and incredibly courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 13, 1948, to Kathleen (née Maher) and Jim Ring, Carmelita grew up in a large family filled with love, music, rowing, and steeped in the rich traditions of her village by the sea, Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland.
Carmelita was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. Her favourite thing to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, each of whom she absolutely adored. Whether it was family game nights, Sunday jiggs dinners, Saturday morning pancakes, making homemade bread, or passing along her favourite Newfoundland recipes - if it was with her family, she was happy.
She enjoyed travelling and exploring the world, but her favourite trips were those that led her 'home' to Newfoundland to visit her beloved sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. She was also deeply committed to her church community, the dear friends made there, and she took great comfort in her faith.
Carmelita leaves behind her three daughters, Lee (tom), Chris (Greg), and Dannie (Mike). To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as Gramalita and was especially cherished: Aiden (Abby), Caffrey, Connor, Ella, Hailey, Harper, Kiara, Kiernan, Owen, Ryan (Ariel). She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Betty, Elaine, and Madonna, and her brothers Randy and Paul. She is reunited in peace with her mom and dad, Kathleen and Jim, sister Lottie and brothers Claude, Jimmy, and Jack.
Mom, we will always remember you for your amazing capacity to love so many and so much, and how you generously shared your warm, kind, and friendly personality with everyone you met. You fought so hard. For so long. For us. We are so lucky to have had you as our Mom, and we hope you are at peace now. We love you, and we miss you. xo 🩷
Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, (847 King Street West) 905-721-1234 on Monday, February 16 from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 17 at 10:30 a.m at St. John the Evangelist Parish ( 903 Giffard St, Whitby).
Donations can be made to the Oshawa Hospital’s Cancer Care Campaign (ourcancer.ca) in recognition of the exceptional care Carmelita received there. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Chang, Dr. Huang, the wonderful nurses, and the entire Oncology team for your dedication, compassion, unwavering support, and care. You made such a difference in our Mom's journey. Thank you.
