Gerardus Aloysius "Gerry" van Hezewyk

Suddenly on Thursday, January 21st, 2016. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) for more than 59 years. Loving father of Jane (Don Campbell), John, Mary (Peter Menzies), Marg (Mark Lacy), Gerry (Cecilia Latorre) and Peter (Jennifer). Much-loved Opa of Donnie (Kait), Elizabeth (Sean), Mhairi (Steve), Catherine, Jordan, Justin, Michael, Joseph, Sean, Liam, Kathleen, Elise, Claire, Noah, Simon and Grace. Son of the late John and Johanna. Gerry will be fondly remembered by his surviving siblings Cor, Leo (Rolande), Al (Mary), Annie, Mary, Paula, Gabriel (Pat) and the extended van Hezewyk and Vonk families. Dad is now reunited with his brothers Albert (Greet), Manuel, John (Toni) and Frank (Cathy). We are grateful that he had a long and healthy retirement after 24 years at Ontario Hydro (Pickering), travelling extensively with his wife, children and grandchildren, volunteering for more than 20 years with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Oshawa, and playing a few hands of cards every week with family and friends. Dad’s legacy of family, faith and community service lives on through his children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, (905-721-1234) on Sunday, January 24th, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH (903 Giffard Street, Whitby) on Monday, January 25th at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
