Surrounded by the love of his family, John passed peacefully. While serving in the Royal Navy he met his loving life partner Maureen. They shared 68 memorable years of marriage. In 1966 he immigrated from England to Canada with his young family. Some of his happiest days were the 42 years spent on Old Pye Court with family, visitors, neighbours and friends. His love of gardening and his prize roses brought him and those he shared them with great joy. An avid lover of watching and playing golf, he enjoyed many rounds both at home and his winter home in Florida. In his retirement he drove for the Canadian Cancer Society as a volunteer.
Left to remember him as a fine man, are his wife Maureen (Burd), daughter Denise and her husband Al Barker, daughter Susan and her husband Declan O’Sullivan.
He was proud of his grandchildren and they will miss his love and guidance. Greatly adored by Nick, Adam and wife Erin, Cory and wife Julie, Kristen and partner Guillaume, Michael and wife Willa, and Madison Schill.
His great grandchildren brought a smile to his face and he took great pleasure in watching his family grow. Their love was always appreciated. Makhyla, Maicie, Marlowe, Georgia, Makenzie, Miles, Sophie, Matteo, Abby, Madden and Violette will miss him greatly.
Cherished by siblings Rosa, Kathleen, Brian and David, and predeceased by Sheila and Michael. Also fondly remembered by extended family and friends in England and Seattle. Sisters-in-law Julie, Eileen, Janet and life long friends Irene and Rex will miss keeping in touch.
In honour of John a contribution to your local food bank would be appreciated. His wish was a private family celebration.
“The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.”
