It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Leonid “Leo” Treeshin. He passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024 at the age of 77 with family by his side. Son of the late Nikolaj Treeshin and Alexandria Werenich, Leo will be remembered by his children, Nicholas (Aimée), Adrienne (Justin), Alexander (Amy), Corey (Priscila), and his grandchildren Winsome, Walker, Alina, Simone, Kayden and Orin. Leo will also be remembered by his siblings Cathy (Frank), Anna (late Tom) and Nick. He was predeceased by his siblings Mary (Ralph), Gus (Joan), Irene (Bernard) and Ted. Leo was a very proud father and couldn’t say enough about his children. He was a loved and respected uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Born in Papenburg Germany, Leo immigrated to Ontario with his parents as an infant. At the age of 16 with only eight dollars in his pocket (that his mother had given him) he left home and went to make it on his own in the Canadian North. He worked the mines as a young man, received his Refrigeration and Electrician licences, and developed LAHM Ridge Towers and The Hall of Fame nightclub in Yellowknife. Always working for himself, he continued onto more ventures in Kelowna, Mattawa and Oshawa.
Leo had a knack for rubbing shoulders with celebrities, and loved telling stories about his legendary friends, the late Stompin’ Tom Connors and Maurice “The Rocket” Richard. Leo loved music, fishing, crossword puzzles, sudoko, and eating lobster and freshly caught pickerel. Added thanks to his nieces Sandra and Christine, his nephew Jason, and his many Oshawa friends. Many thanks to the staff who cared for him at Lakeridge Health, and the exceptional care and kindness from the staff at Heritage Harbour at Fairview Lodge.
Leo’s favourite song was “My Way”, and throughout his life right up until the very end he certainly did it “his way”. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
