It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a remarkable individual, Manuel Antonio Arango Sr. He departed this world on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Oshawa, Ontario, at the age of 91. Born in Yacopi, Colombia, in October 1931, he was the cherished son of the late Jorge Enrique Arango and Elvira Linares.
Manuel was a loving brother to Emira Arango (deceased), Mariela Arango, Euclides Arango, Enrique Arango, and Mary Arango. Throughout his life, he exemplified the virtues of devotion, compassion, and loyalty as a devoted husband, incredible father, loving son, grandfather, and loyal friend.
Manuel possessed a deep-seated humanitarian spirit, and he dedicated his life to helping those in need. He tirelessly supported numerous Canadian and international charities, always extending a helping hand to others. He held a great appreciation for classical music and actively participated as a member of the Whitby choir. His love for the arts brought joy to his life and those around him.
With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Manuel spent over three decades as a full professor of Spanish and Spanish literature at Laurentian University. He shared his passion with countless students, inspiring them to explore the beauty and richness of the Spanish language and culture. An accomplished author, he published multiple books and academic articles, leaving a lasting impact on the academic community.
A perpetual student, Manuel pursued lifelong learning, acquiring several degrees throughout his journey. He embraced the joys of intellectual growth, always seeking to expand his understanding of the world.
Manuel is survived by his beloved spouse, Gloria Arango, and his loving children, Manuel Antonio Arango Jr (Jennifer Wright), Magda Foster (Andrew), and Stephanie Bialas (Artur). He was the cherished grandfather of Joshua Foster, Braeden Foster, Mirek Bialas, Jackson Arango, Sofia Bialas, and Jaimeson Arango. His immeasurable love for his family was evident in every moment spent together, from joyful family reunions to creating treasured memories while traveling alongside his beloved spouse.
As a husband, father, brother, grandfather, son, cousin, and friend, Manuel was a paragon of trustworthiness and authenticity. He was always ready and willing to extend his hand in aid to anyone in need, embodying the true essence of compassion.
Manuel Antonio Arango's passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by his extended family and friends. The outpouring of prayers and kind gestures received during this difficult time is immensely appreciated by the Arango family.
A visitation to honor Manuel's life will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oshawa Funeral Home, located at 847 King Street West, Oshawa, Ontario. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Holy Family Parish, 91 Ribblesdale Drive, Whitby, Ontario. Following the funeral mass, a burial service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery on the same day, June 2, 2023.
