
STE. MARIE, Moira (Nee O'Connor) On Friday April 8, 2011 after a very short but valiant fight against lymphoma, in her 76th year. Moira was a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend to many and devoted servant of God. She will be deeply and profoundly missed. Beloved wife of 50 years to Ron. Cherished mother of Michelle, Darcy (Colleen), Janine (John), Des (Danielle), Morgan (Dina), Denise (Paulo) and Larry (Stacey). Proud Gram/Grammie to Shannon, Devin, Kelly, Rebecca, Jonathan, Elizabeth , Aidan, Liam, Juliette, Declan, Gabriel, Isabella, Emma, Ava, Max, Keira, Mateo, Cassidy, Maddy and Josie. Dear sister of Patricia, Denis (Ursula), Helen, Terry (Colleen), Gerri, Maurice (Marilyn) and the late Marguerite, George and Morgan and sister-in-law to Lenore, Marlene (Bob), Thelma (Mike), Irwin (Shirley), Earl and the late Audrey, Doreen, Len and Bob. Moira will be missed by over 50 nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, as well as countless cousins in Ontario and Michigan. Moira was raised in Pickering/Ajax on Maplehurst Farm. She was a graduate of Pickering High School, Loretta Abbey and Toronto Teachers’ College. She was a teacher, a mother who raised seven children, the Returning Officer for Elections Canada for the Riding of Oshawa and later Oshawa/Whitby for 30 years, the Innkeeper of The Victoria Inn on Rice Lake for 10 years and a volunteer for many different charities and organizations, including being a member of the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities. Moira was a life member and mentor of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, having served at the parish, regional, archdiocesan, provincial and national levels. She was an excellent athlete in her younger days and an avid fan of many sports and teams, especially those that her children and grandchildren played on. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Sunday April 10th and Monday April 11th from 2 – 4 & 7- 9 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial at ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1100 Mary Street North , Oshawa on Tuesday April 12th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to ShareLife, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
