With her family by her side, Joan passed away peacefully on January 2nd, 2011 after a long and courageous battle at Hillsdale Estates, at the age of 83. She is predeceased by her husband Vernon and by her son Leslie. Joan leaves behind her children June (Gary), Doug, Maggie (Ernie) and Glenn (Shelly). Grandchildren Janice (Clint), Daniel, Adam, Robin, Jeffrey, Christine, Hayley and her great grandson, Easton. Joan was a long-time member and volunteer with Canadian Corps Ladies Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and Community Care Durham. She was also an active member of Kingsview United Church Choir for many years. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Hillsdale Estates for all of their affection to Joan. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Wednesday, January 5th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, January 6th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
