ERICKSON, Robert Arthur (Bob) - Feb 16, 1947 - Jan 3, 2015. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bob Erickson. Bob passed away surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, on Saturday, January 3, 2015 after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Beloved (ex-husband) and best friend to Dawn. Loving father to daughter Carrie (Kevin Burgis- known as “Bob's Agent”) and "best buddy and pal" to daughter Brooke. Proud "Grandpa Bob" to Paige and Alexander.
Brother to loving sister Dorothy (Bob Debrie) of Sudbury, ON, Ronnie Erickson (Juliette) of Toronto, ON. and Terry Erickson of Sudbury, ON. Son to the late Arthur and Hilda Erickson of Lively, ON. Bob was brother-in-law to Bob Debrie and Uncle to Michael and Darren Debrie and Andrea Erickson of Sudbury, ON and Daniel Erickson, of Toronto, ON. Bob was son-in-law to the late Alexander John MacIver and the late Aileen W. MacIver of Parry Sound, ON. Bob was brother-in-law to Dail and Kim Norrie and Uncle to Daniel, David and Courtney of Parry Sound, ON.
On a personal note:
Bob was a very proud and dedicated member of the RCMP with a combined service of 37 years with both the RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).
Bob was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and grew up in Lively, Ontario. He attended Lively high school where he was known and has been fondly remembered as "Bobbie" by his Lively high school senior classmates. Bob is remembered by his daughter's friends as the Dad who "told it as it was" (whether you liked it or not). Bob was famous for making the greatest French Fries and home-made buns. Bob was also cherished for his striking blue eyes, perfect teeth, infectious smile, and great "belly" laugh.
Bob was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the beautiful lakes of Northern Ontario. He did a crossword puzzle each day to 'keep the mind strong'. Bob enjoyed watching horse racing and always bet on the #6.
A special thank you to Dr. David Hughes (family doctor), Dr. McAllister and Dr. Wilk of the Palliative Care Unit and 5th floor Stroke Unit at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, Ontario. Bob was kept in the safe and caring hands of the wonderful team of nurses and volunteers that cared for Bob until his passing. Thank-you to Bob's friends from Moody's who visited him regularly and provided their support to Bob and his family. These wonderful people helped to keep Bob's spirits up (Tom Gibb, Jack, Glenn and Debbie).
A special thank-you to all of Bob's Lively High-School Classmates who have sent our family wonderful stories about Bob's days growing up (Kenny Bangerter, Doug Mineault, Ed Tyreman, Mary Crowder). Adding their support at this saddest of times.
Dawn, Brooke, Carrie and Kevin, Paige and Alexander
In lieu of flowers, Bob's family have requested memorial donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Canada. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a future date.
