Steven passed away suddenly on February 28th, 2026, while on vacation with his wife in Cozumel, Mexico at the age of 74. Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Tony Ptak. He is survived by his loving wife Theresa, children Stefan (Tomoko), Carolyn (Matt) and Jonathan (Karen). Proud grandpa of Ethan and Mei. He will be missed by cousin Jason (Marianna) as well as many other family and friends.
Despite health issues in recent years, he retained a love of travel and his death occurred after an enjoyable week in paradise.
Steven was born in Kirkland Lake but moved to Oshawa where he spent most of his life and raised his family. He had many interests and was an avid fan of sports, most notably hockey, music, animals and especially family.
Steven was very friendly and amusing. Acquaintances often found him to be very approachable and readily shared many personal details of their lives.
In accordance with Steven's wishes cremation has taken place and interment is planned at a future date at Union Cemetery alongside his beloved parents, with a celebration of life to follow.
Anyone who knew Steven was aware of his love of junk food. It would be a fitting tribute if they had French fries and a Coke in his memory. Otherwise, donations to Diabetes Canada or the Humane Society would be appreciated.
