Avis Hulvey

Avis Hulvey, 94, of Ossian, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Christian Care. She was born September 26, 1927, in Ladysmith, WI, the daughter of the late Raymond and Elva Mae (Carter) Baumgartner. She married Richard Hulvey on June 13, 1948, at Ossian Church of the Nazarene. Avis graduated from Lancaster High School. She was a homemaker, owned her own printing company: Gingerbread House Publications, and worked numerous part-time jobs throughout the years. She was a member of the Ossian Church of the Nazarene and served many years as a Sunday School teacher and church board member. She was also PTA president and Girl Scout leader for several years. Surviving family include her children, Marilyn (Jack) Gibbs of South Bend, Jerry Hulvey, Dave (Tami) Hulvey, and Janice (Jerry) Roop, all of Ossian; grandchildren, Andy (Heather) Gibbs, Joel Gibbs, Kristi (Mike) Bishop, Scott (Emily) Roop, Sharmin (Nick) Hutto, Kim Roop; 14 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Carol (John) Harness of Hendersonville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Richard; and brothers, Harold, Larry and Alan Baumgartner. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Ossian Church of the Nazarene, 302 North Metts Street, Ossian, Indiana 46777 with visitation on hour prior. Visitation will also be held Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill Street, Ossian, Indiana 46777. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
