Nelson S. Gast, 80, of Ossian, Indiana passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was born on April 11, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late Raymond Gast and Rose Ann Steil. Nelson dedicated 32 years to the United States Air Force & Air National Guard. He enjoyed watching John Wayne Movies, bowling, working on cars, and carpentry. Nelson was also an avid animal lover and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Gast; children, William Gast and Michelle (Michael C.) Barnes; grandchildren, Codi Stoinski, Whitney Gast and Michael E. Barnes; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Crandall; and brothers, Kenneth (Connie) Gast, Doug (Kathy) Gast and Bruce (Cameron) Gast. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at American Legion Post 160, 1122 North Main Steet Roanoke, Indiana 46783.
