
Robert A. Elliott, 80, of Ossian, unexpectedly passed on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at home on his farm. Bob was born and raised in Ossian and lived on his family homestead. He was the oldest of four children born to the late Harry and Dorothy Elliott. Bob graduated from Ossian High School in 1952. He married Clara “Elsie” McManis in January 1953, and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Elsie passed on November 21, 2005. Bob served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954-1956. When he returned, he attended Midwest Technical College in Fort Wayne where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Bob worked for Phelps and consulted in numerous other manufacturing facilities in the Fort Wayne area. When Bob retired from engineering, he joined the Norwell H.S. custodial staff until his retirement in 2000. Bob loved his church, First Presbyterian Church, Ossian. Bob was also known as the “egg man” and tree spraying man in Wells and Adams County. Bob had a fruit orchard and was well known for his delicious apples, pears, grapes, and cherries. Bob married Elizabeth Courtright Kennedy on April 6, 2008, she survives. Other survivors include his son, James (Dana) Elliott, and daughter, Debra (David) Bowers both of Ossian; brother, Jerry Elliott of Bluffton; four grandchildren; one of whom, Darik, was raised, by Bob and each of his wives from his early teenage years to adulthood; four great grandchildren; four step children; and seven step grandchildren. Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in passing by his siblings, Mary and Edward. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 123 S. Jefferson St., Ossian with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, Ossian. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Ossian building fund.
