

On Thursday, July 28, 2011 Al made a quick and peaceful transition after a short battle with lung cancer, surrounded by family at his favourite place on earth – Mactwichamac Point – the family cottage. Age 78, survived by his loving wife of 54 years Elizabeth “Beth” (nee Shouldice), and children Jim (Anne), Steve (Marianne) and Sue (Mike Flaherty). Proud Grampa to Leah, Cameron & Heather MacGregor, and Patrick & Meaghan Flaherty. Son of Minnie (nee Ludington) and Roddick MacGregor (Ottawa). Survived by his sisters Lorna Richards (Don Buck), Ann Twombly (Albert) and sister in law Marie MacGregor. Predeceased by brothers Donald (Montreal) and Robert “Bob” MacGregor (Perth). Greatly loved by his many nieces and nephews and fondly remembered as “Uncle Al, the kiddies’ pal.” Al was a proud employee of Metropolitan Life for 33 years and spent 8 happy years with Royal LePage. He was well known as a strong community supporter serving as president to South Ottawa Kiwanis, Big Sisters Association of Ottawa-Carleton and the Kashwakamak Lake Association as well as his involvement in many political, sporting and other community organizations. Special thanks to the General Hospital Cancer Clinic, the wonderful homecare nurses through the Ottawa and Kingston CCAC and Dr. Tam, Northbrook ON. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ottawa Hospital’s Centre for Innovative Cancer Research (CICR). Visitation on Friday, August 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Rd. at Albion Rd. Memorial Service Saturday at 2 p.m. in Saint Thomas the Apostle Church.
