Peacefully at the Montfort Hospital, on January 12, 2014 at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents Mendoza Normand and Jeannette Brulé of Ottawa. Beloved husband of the late Vivian (née Parker) and beloved father of the late Peter (Ann Marie Daly). He leaves his children Bernie (Linda Huckabone); JoAnn; Lee (Ghislaine Parent); Paul (Marie Chantal Sarazin) and Louise. Cherised grandfather of 11 grandchildren : Natasha (Mike Taylor), Sonya (Jeff Murphy); Jennifer (Davide Grisoni), Jaymee, Jillian, Julia; Caroline (David Pierce), Rémi-Paul (Solmaz Soleimani-Normand)); Zaina, Adam and Jirius and 2 step grandchildren: Christine (Parent ) Cavanagh and Jason (Parent) Proulx. 4 great-grandchildren: Ashley Dominique Taylor and Aiden Murphy and Émmanuel and Éléa Soleimani-Normand, and 2 step great-grandchildren Victoria and Olivia Cavanagh.

Predeceased by his sister Madeleine, his brother Jean (Annette Tessier) and his brother Gaston Normand. He is survived by his sisters: Lucille (Louis Desmarais); Claire (the late Ernest Sauvé); Hélène (Doctor Miguel Brache). He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Patricia Parker Walsh and Annette Tessier Normand. He is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

B.J. was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy for whom he served his country on the HMCS Chebogue. Armed with determination and strength of spirit he founded B.J. Normand Ltd. He is an honorary life time member of the Walls and Ceilings Contractors Association (WACCA).

Family and friends are invited to a memorial mass which will be celebrated at the Notre Dame Basilica Cathedral, Sussex Drive on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive condolences at the Church starting at 9:15 a.m. Interment to follow at the National Military Cemetery (Beechwood Cemetery).

In lieu of flowers a donation to the Notre Dame Basilica Cathedral 56 Guigues Street Ottawa, Ontario K1N 5H5 in memory of B.J. would be appreciated. We wish to thank the staff at Governor's Walk Retirement Residence and the staff of the Montfort Hospital 6C for their expert attention and care.

LA FAMILLE NORMAND a le regret de vous faire part du décès de M. Bernard Joseph (BJ) Normand d'Ottawa. Décédé paisiblement à l'hôpital Montfort, entouré de sa famille, le 12 janvier 2014, à l'âge de 90 ans. Fils de Mendoza Normand et de Jeannette Brulé d'Ottawa. Prédécédé par sa tendre épouse Vivian (née Parker) Normand, et de son fils Peter (Ann Marie Daly). Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Bernie (Linda Huckabone); JoAnn; Lee (Ghislaine Parent); Paul (Marie Chantal Sarazin) et Louise. Le grand-père bien aimé de 11 petits-enfants Natasha (Mike Taylor), Sonya (Jeff Murphy); Jennifer (Davide Grisoni), Jaymee, Jillian, Julia; Caroline (David Pierce), Rémi-Paul (Solmaz Soleimani-Normand); Zaina, Adam, Jirius et de 2 beaux-enfants Christine (Parent) Cavanagh et Jason (Parent) Proulx. L'arrière-grand-père de 4 arrières petits enfants: Ashley Dominique Taylor, Aiden Murphy, d'Émmanuel et d'Éléa Soleimani-Normand et de 2 arrière petits beaux-enfants, Victoria et Olivia Cavanagh. Prédécédé de sa sœur Madeleine, de son frère Jean (Annette Tessier) et de son frère Gaston. Lui survivent également ses sœurs Lucille Normand (Louis Desmarais), Claire Normand (feu Ernest Sauvé); Hélène Normand (Docteur Miguel Brache). Il laisse également 2 belles-sœurs Patricia Parker Walsh et Annette Tessier Normand.

B.J. fut un vétéran de la marine royale canadienne, et a bien servi son pays sur le HMCS Cheboque. Armé de sa détermination et de sa force d'esprit, il a fondé B.J. Normand Ltée. Il est un membre honorifique à vie de Walls and Ceilings Contractors Association (WACCA).

Le service religieux aura lieu le vendredi 17 janvier 2014 à 10 h en l'église Cathédrale Notre-Dame Basilique d'Ottawa; inhumation au Cimetière militaire national Beechwood.

La famille recevra les condoléances à l'église à compter de 9 h15.
