Grant, Elizabeth (“Liz”) Ann on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 of cancer and in her seventieth year. Liz was known for her kindness, her wit, her love of animals, and her passion for modern art. She is survived by her husband (Ian Shields), her nephew and niece, Jason Grant and Sylvia (Kovacs) Grant, and their children: Justyce, Keyten, and Heyden. She revered her cousins, particularly Anne Waite, Maggie McLean, and Susan White, who were so supportive during her lengthy illness. She was close to friends Sylvia Howard, Judy Patterson, Margie Zupko, and Karen McCallum, whom she knew for decades and also to new friends, such as Jeanne Mann, whom she met in India. A memorial service will be held at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home in Ottawa on Saturday June 1st at 11:30 am. There will be a graveside service when her ashes are interred this summer in Harpurhey Cemetery in Seaforth, Ontario.
Liz was a Psychological Associate at the Royal Ottawa Hospital for over 30 years. She was a descendent of the Grants from the house of Bacharn, near Nethy Bridge, Scotland, who were pioneers in the wilderness that is now London, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, mourners may send donations to a charity of their choice (but not patriarchal faith groups or right-wing conservative groups).
