Gail Liston peacefully passed away April 8, 2023, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, in her 85th year. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final hours. Gail was married to Albert (Bert) Liston, for almost 60 years who predeceased her in 2020. Loving mother is Stephen (Virginia), Peter (Roxane), Mark, Janet (Steffan), and Predeceased by her son Kevin.
Proud grandmother of Sean (Michael), Katherine (Alex), Timothy (Danielle), James, and Rachel, as well as great grandchildren Matthew, Abigail and Henry.
Gail was born in Ottawa, and except for short periods of living in Kingston, Montreal, and Ann Arbour Michigan, remains in Ottawa for the rest of her life. She graduated from Immaculata High School, and then from the University of Ottawa with a degree in nursing. She worked for the Privy Council after graduation, but then started nursing at the Ottawa General Hospital. Gail took time away from work to raise her children, but as the family grew up and were attending school full time, she returned to nursing – but this time at the West End Villa Seniors Residence.
Gail and her brothers and sisters grew up going to “the camp” at Carson Lake. At that time it was quite an adventure, and she helped her father Maurice build a log cabin on the shores of the lake. More than anything, Gail loved the cottage for the opportunity it provided to spend time not just with her immediate family, but also with her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Thanksgiving feasts, boat regattas, marshmallow roasts at night, and a bit trunk of costumes for the kids are all cherished memories and family stories.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday April 18th at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home from 10am until 11:45 am. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30pm at St. Patrick’s Fallowfield church (15 Steeple Hill Crescent, Napean, Ontario). Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery following the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Particularly the palliative team. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Society or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
