Joan Louise Hoey Howell

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Joan Louise Howell (nee Hoey, formerly McArthur) peacefully on Monday, April 12th 2010 at The Hospice at May Court in Ottawa. Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Ross Howell, and predeceased by her first husband, John McArthur. Joan was a loving mother to their six children: David McArthur (Kathy), Lynn Scrim (nee McArthur) (Gary), Linda Howell, Tom Howell (Charlene), Allan Howell (Anne), Richard Howell (Donna) and adored Grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Born in Toronto, ON, September 7th, 1932, Joan was the daughter of the late Maurice and Velma Hoey and survived by her sister Doreen Brown.

Joan loved her family dearly and words cannot express the admiration and respect we all have for this remarkable woman. She fought her cancer with determination and courage. She as left us with a lifetime of love and memories.

Gratitude is sincerely expressed for the exceptional loving and devoted care received from Ross and Doreen, a loving husband and sister, during Joan’s extended “at-home care”. The family also wishes to thank Dr. M. Nassim and Dr. M. Lozano for their palliative care.

The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Rd. at Albion Rd on Wednesday April 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday April 15, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Capital Memorial Gardens 3700 Prince of Wales Dr. Nepean ON. In lieu of flowers, memoriam donations to The Hospice at May Court or Ottawa Regional Cancer foundation would be greatly appreciated.
