Oh dear, now John's gone too.  Our deepest sympathy to Terry and Steph, Sean and Laura, and Anna May and their families.  The loss of both parents within a few months makes John's passing unbelievably sad for the family and those of us fortunate enough to know them.
John was a third generation CNR man, a third generation Aylen Laker, but first and foremost a dedicated family man.  Our family has been fortunate enough to know the Gaffney's and their kin for three generations too, both families having cottages on Aylen Lake for over 100 years.  A finer man than John you'll never see and we will miss him constantly.  Fittingly, the lights were on in the Gaffney cottage early this morning as the deer hunt is on.  John's gang is carrying on that great tradition as we type.

My condolences to the Gaffney family. My Dad (Pat Brennan) and John were good friends and had a lot of good times together. It was nice to see all the photos of the two of them together and the picture of our families meeting up in BC for Expo 86.

Our sincere sympathy to Sean, Terry, Anna-May and families.  John and I were friends since elementary school and both worked for CNR, retiring on the same day.  We shared many outings together - some not as clear as others in memory!  He was a good man, a good friend and he will be missed.  Rest in peace John.

I've been blessed over the years having been able to make a few trips north to Canada. It was on one of those trips to Aylen Lake that a mutual friend first introduced to me John. As an outsider, I remembered then, as I do today, at how welcoming John made me feel from the very beginning. So much so, that whenever I was at the lake, I would make it a point to stop by and hopefully see him for an impromptu visit. My regret the last time I ran into him, was going empty handed, and realizing all too quickly that I was drinking one of his beers. Not sure I will ever go back to Aylen Lake, and instead just let all the good memories, like those shared with a kind, warm, and giving person named John Gaffney, endure on their own the rest of my days.
