Jack worked at Mulligan’s florist delivering flowers. He also was a mechanic with his brother Paul. Later he moved on to becoming a handyman under the name “Jack’s Fix it”. Jack was an extremely charming person who included anyone and everyone in his daily life, with him, there was no judgment. He did things his way and lived for today and didn’t worry about tomorrow. Friends he made over his lifetime meant a great deal to him and he would be at the ready to help when called upon. He loved playing cards, cribbage, poker and Euchre and of course the race track. Dad had the biggest infectious laugh that could be heard from a far and a slap on the knee to go with it. Then there was the infamous handshake followed by a kick to the shin! Dad was very proud of his Irish heritage, a member of the Irish Society. He always believed in giving to those less fortunate and contributing to The Mission and the Shepherds of Good Hope to name a few. As he got older, he became a much quieter person and reflected on his life. His interaction with his great grandchildren were much gentler than previous generations. Jack was proud of all his children and grateful for the care they provided in his later years. He was a devout Christian and attended Saint Patrick’s Basilica daily up until he was 90 when he couldn’t drive anymore. Thank you to everyone who helped chauffeur dad to church, it meant the world to him.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and Longfields Manor for their compassionate support and care of Jack.
